FIRST MISSION!!

Welcome everyone to the Korean Learning Squad.

This is the best gang to join, as learning Korean here, ya’ll, will be easy peasy!

First Mission to join the Korean gang is to learn how to read and write the language. Let’s get started making ourselves familiar with “Hangeul” the korean alphabet with this chart:

Now, you should be able to pronounce every -or almost every- letter in Hangeul alphabet.

Time for syllable construction!

Korean Hangeul is like a puzzle, thus you gotta match each consonant and each vowel in a proper manner. You! Don’t give up already! Its easier than it sounds.

Here an example of syllable (block) construction with the word beer in Korean:

As you can see, vowels go either on the left or under the first consonant. And there is ALWAYS a first consonant in every syllable block.

If a syllable doesn’t have a consonant sound at first position we use the consonant (ㅇ/ng/) to fill the spot in the syllable block. Which acts as a mute consonant.

Got It? Yeah? Let’s continue then.

In a syllable block we CAN find a third letter, that is always a consonant (sometimes it’s a double consonant combination) and we ALWAYS place it UNDER the first two letters of the block.

(mention: note that vertical vowels go on the left side of the 1st consonant and horizontal ones go under it, makes sense right?)

Finally you’re good to go! Now you can write codificated english words in Hangeul to start practicing your freshly learned skills, have fun!

See ya’ll next time, when  we’ll actually learn some Korean!

안녕 /Annyeong/!

Your boss, Madame 한굴
